Measurement of the Np-237 Neutron Capture Cross Section from Thermal to 100 eV

Shcherbakov, O.; Harada, Hideo; Furutaka, Kazuyoshi; Nakamura, Shoji; Sakane, Hitoshi; Katsuhei, Kobayashi,*; Yamamoto, Shuji*

ND2004 Abstracts, LA-UR-04-5900, p.133, 133 Pages, 2004/09

The neutron capture cross section of Np-237 has been measured for the energy range between thermal to 100 eV using a TOF method. The developed system composed of JNC-BGO detector and FADC data taking is presented together with the obtained result.

Determination of the$$^{99}$$Tc (thermal n, $$gamma$$) $$^{100}$$Tc Reaction Cross Section from the prompt $$gamma$$-Ray Yields

Furutaka, Kazuyoshi; Harada, Hideo; Raman, S.*

Nuclear Data for Science and Technology (ND2004), p.1454 - 1457, 2004/09

To determine thermal neutron capture cross section of$$^{99}$$Tc from the yields of prompt $$gamma$$ rays to the ground state of$$^{100}$$Tc, analysis of the existing data was done. $$gamma$$-ray spectra were obtained with a coaxial intrinsic Ge detector positioned inside a NaI(Tl) annuls which is optically divided into two halves. The Ge detector was operated either in the Compton-Suppressed (CS) or the pair-spectrometer (PS) mode. Peak analysis was done for each $$gamma$$ ray observed both in the CS and the PS modes. Combining the results of the analyses in both modes, a total of 1100 $$gamma$$ rays were identified to be originated from$$^{100}$$Tc. From the obtained data a partial decay scheme was constructed, and six $$gamma$$ rays were identified as transitions to the ground state. From the intensities of these $$gamma$$ rays, the lower limit of the cross section is obtained as 21.37$$pm$$0.62b.

Development of a method of thermal-neutron capture cross section measurement by unfolding prompt $$gamma$$ ray spectra

Sakane, Hitoshi; Furutaka, Kazuyoshi; Shcherbakov, O.; Harada, Hideo; Fujii, Toshiyuki*; Yamana, Hajimu*

Absracts [246] P.131, 131 Pages, 2004/00

A Method of thermal neutron capture cross section measurement by unfolding prompt $$gamma$$ ray spectra were developed. Response function for unfolding spectra was constructed by using EGS-4 code. To check the reliability of the response function, prompt $$gamma$$ rays emitted from $$^{15}$$N produced in thermal neutron capture reaction were reproduced.
